I will not be voting today.
I did not make this choice today; I actually made it inadvertently back in January.
When I moved to Maryland, one of the responsibilities was to go to the MVA, get my license changed and in doing so formalize my residency in Maryland. As an established resident I would have been added to a voter list, and been provided a location to go to and vote today.
However, I never went to the MVA. I knew from the last time I lived in Maryland in 2001 that the MVA would also require me to re-register my car with Maryland tags. Maryland charges a tax of 5% the value of your car when you get your tags, which means on my at-the-time four year old Jeep, I would have owed about $700.
I did not have a job when I moved in with Selena and couldn’t justify using the savings I was living on to pay an excess tax. Once I took the job with The Motley Fool the long hours and long commute made it difficult to find time to get to the MVA, and then as with so many things that live on the to-do list for too long, it lost its urgency and I forgot about it.
It is self-serving stingy bastards like you who are ruining our country as we speak… seriously.
J/k : ) About the “like you” part… really the rest is pretty true.
