I was relieved that turning thirty-one did not bring the baggage that came with thirty. Thirty, being such a nice round number, a change in both digits, forced me to think about what change I should be enacting in my life. That introspection resulted in moving to DC, getting a new job, and getting engaged.
The non-descript prime number thirty-one; however, came up quietly, with the only urgency being the need to get my expiring driver’s license changed over to Maryland, (which I’m told is a sign of real commitment to this area, apparently, pre-Maryland-license, I was still a flight risk to up and return to Delaware).
Still, while I was writing it off as not a big deal, Selena treated it with great importance, setting up a happy hour at the ubur-ritzy Mayflower hotel, followed by some dinner at the not-as-ritzy Pizzaria Unos (my choice) and generally making sure I had a happy and special day.
Congrats and happy birthday! 31 was a pretty good year, but I have to tell ya, so far 32 is even better. So you have stuff to look forward to!
Feliz Cumpleaños!!
Not to mention you got a really swank coffee mug!
Every birthday must be treated with the proper respect of a celebration no matter how big or little – as long as you enjoy it. Happy Belated Birthday!
