I am setting up a Facebook account, because (mark my words) it just redefined itself to become the next HUGE thing online. I am setting up my profile. When I set my status to “engaged†and a new field appears labeled “to…”, I type in “Selena Kang”
I hit “submit” and the next screen displays Selena’s (albeit empty) Facebook profile with the option to “Add as Fianceeâ€.
Why is this alarming? Because I can add anyone as my fiancée just by knowing their name.
Circle back, I typed in Selena’s name, it sought out her profile, and gave me the option to add her as my fiancée. The same option would have popped up should I have typed in any one of your names. Do you have a say in this? Nope. Do you have any recourse if my profile states I am engaged to you? Nada. This is a scary little loophole in the Facebook setup system.

It’s so true! I know because *I* just added Selena as *my* fiancee, too.
Well, no, not really — apparently they have that whole little “validation” step and I didn’t want her to have a freaky email from me Facebook.
Great. Another social networking sit I’ll ignore…
Hmmm… maybe we should all make Selena our fiancee…
Yeah, Miss Alicia is right- she has to confirm that before it is concrete… so you can feel the stage fright all over again! : )
Thank you Miss Alicia and Kitty for testing that for me. Although I wonder how you tested that, and who are now your new Facebook fiancee’s for doing so.
you’ll see… : )
I agree. I am so going to make Selena my fiancee.
