Hurricane season had been uneventfully coating along the past few weeks, then came Dean. If you haven’t been monitoring, Hurricane Dean was a Category 5 hurricane that came across the Caribbean this week from east to west, overtaking Jamaica, clipping the Caymans and smacking up again the Yucatan beaches. Evacuations were enacted on many islands and tropical beaches, and FEMA teams are being sent to southern Texas to be on hand and at the ready, just in case.I’ve been following the storm avidly, because I equate it to the worst case scenario will look like for our Islamorada wedding. No matter how much we plan and coordinate the wedding, we are still going to be at the mercy of the Mother Nature.ÂÂ
There are some good takeaways from watching Dean. First, is learning that evaculations are called fairly early. Southern Texas went into a state of emergency three days before Dean was to hit that general area. This instills confidence that if a storm comes to the Keys, we should know whether we will be “game on” before most of our guests have boarded their flights.
The other good takeaway is seeing that Sandals Jamaica, which got smacked head-on by Dean, was back up and running in the same day. This quick rebound is reassuring that it’s unlikely even a hurricane could ruin our Honeymoon week in Sandals St. Lucia.
Preferably, though, these takeaways and the contingency planning will all be wasted time, as we will be wed surrounding by friends and family on a bright sunny day in Florida. We hope.ÂÂ
I hope so too! I haven’t really been following because no matter how much we follow the currents storms, it really won’t tell us anything about what could happen over a month from now- and I just didn’t want to go there!
But, I think you’re smart to watch and gather information to perhaps formulate a worst-case plan… good thinking : )
I am hoping for peaceful, blue skys, maybe some dolphin swimming, and lots of partying with friends and family, and wedded bliss : )
Seeing as the only things we can control in this situation are really our actions and attitudes, it’s great to see that you guys are taking action, and have really good attitudes about it… I’m sure everything will be fine and at the very worst, it seems you’ll have a great St. Lucia vacation out of it. That’s not too shabby… : )
The weather for your wedding and honeymoon will be ab-fab. Definitely.
Selena, I love the Yoda flash-drive cozy…you are hilarious! You inspired me to pull out the hooks again. I made you a cupcake. Is your mailing info on the group e-mail right? Heaven forbid the cupcake should land in the wrong hands!
Hey, Katie O.
The mailing list is right, so send on the cupcakes! Selena will be so happy.
I looked into it, Kitty, and we will have the option to swim with the dolphins. You may want to start saving a few pennies, because it doesn’t come cheap, but the Dolphin Sanctuary down the street does offer that opportunity.
Awesome!
