On the drive to Florida, Selena and I both had their vows prepared, but disagreed on how to present them. I said I would be memorizing my vows, Selena responded that she would not be doing so.
Not wanting to show up Selena, I stopped memorizing, and simply wrote out my vows. Selena, not wanting to disappoint me, went ahead and memorized hers. So, at the ceremony we both presented their vows in the method we hadn’t intended so as to make the other happy.
Only a few minutes after the ceremony, we were asked if they would post the vows we wrote to each other on the website (I’m told it wasn’t the easiest thing to hear on that windy beach). So, I suppose this blog is taking requests now. Here are the vows as Selena and I wrote them:
Greg to Selena:
Today I am giving myself to you in marriage to be your shin’sin, your husband. With the one exception of knowing that you insist on placing our silverware tray backwards, this is nothing else in this world I am more certain of then that I am making the right choice today, marrying my best friend. Wu eye nee, Selena. I want to be with you, today and everyday, you and me. I vow to keep you laughing and smiling, I will cherish and respect you. And for richer or poorer, thorugh sickness and health, in good times and in hard times, I will continue falling in love with you a little bit more, again and again, every day. These promised I will keep all the day of our lives.
Selena to Greg:
Today I give myself to you in marriage. I love you and you are my best friend. We share everything, even trouble. Home is wherever you are I promise that I will not let things like Gross Kitty or dryer balls ruin it. We laugh together and have more fun than it should be possible for two people to do. But you have also been with me through some of the hardest times of my life as well. When our love is simple, and when it is an effort, I promise to cherish you, and to always hold you in highest regard. These things I give to you today, and all the days of our life.
It’s like the gift of the magi.
Thanks so much for sharing these! I love that some of the blog’s greatest hits – like the silverware tray and dryer balls – made it in!
Wow. I’m so glad you posted these. If I close my eyes really tight I can imagine that I was there listening to you say these vows to each other. Makes me a little teary. Well done.
Thank you for posting your vows! They are very sweet & funny. What is a Gross Kitty?
We hope to also post the toasts from the Maid and Matron of Honor and the Best Man, as soon as we get them transcribed off the video.
[...] This blog was started to capture all the discoveries Greg and Selena had once they moved in together. Some of the early classics include Selena’s fear of running out of tuna , Greg’s belief that dryer balls work, and Selena’s insistence of turning around the silverware tray some of which even were worked into our wedding vows.
