This season of Heroes has been underwhelming. It dragged on for weeks and now seems that it sprintied to a hasty conclusion before the writers went on strike. Still there have been some interesting developments and new characters, which means it’s time to again examine the list of favorite hero powers of the remaining heroes. Here’s Greg’s list, (Selena’s to follow):
- Hero – Time travel / freeze time
Still the coolest power ever, and I’m a bit miffed at Sulu for thinking Hero can’t play God, hell yeah he could have.
- Parkman – Mind manipulation
When Parkman realized he can do more than just read minds, he can go all Obiwan “These are not the droids you’re looking for.” he surged way up this list.
- Micah – Talks to ATMS, Xboxes, etc
- Monica – Can learn a Ray Mysterio 619 just by watching Survivor Series
- Peter – Power absorption
Ths power’s falling down the list because Peter’s not using it. He can absorb any power, and he prefers to stay locked up with Adam or romancing the plain Jane of the Lucky Charms gang. What a waste. - West/Nathan – Fly like an eagle, a really fast eagle
And thank you West for, unlike Nathan, actually enjoying and using this highly desirable power. Claire leaves a note on his flight-path to school, I love that. - Claire/Adam – Regeneration
- Haitian – Abilty to make others forget
- Molly – Internal GPS
How cool will she find this power when she gets to high school, it’s like a built-in Marauders Map. - Elle – Emperor Palpatine lightning-bolt power
- Niki – Can go crazy, talk to mirrors
- Siler – Forgot everything, should be dead last, except…
- Maya – Stresses out, cries often, kills everyone
- Suresh – Able to narrate, also proficient at whining
I left out Isaac, Candice, the cute Waitress from season one and DL among others because of their unfortunate state of being not alive. If I forgot any heroes please let me know, and if you disagree with the ordering, let me know that too.
Just FYI, it is Hiro not Hero. In Japanese, Hiro means “broad” or “widespread”. This seems appropriate. I am not a fan of Parkman’s power, it is dangerous and seems to me that it could be severely impairing (Did you ever see the “Earshot” episode of Buffy?). But I do love Micah’s power and a similar power of the one person that you omitted because she was on for like two episodes. Hana Gitelman. Her powers is one I would want so I could check my email while I was driving.
This is a pretty good roll call… but I find Matt’s power to be pretty scary. I like Peter’s power, cuz it’s the ultimate “I want 3 more wishes” power. Of the newbies, I like Monica’s power best, though I’m finally starting to warm to Elle as a character. I loved VM so much that I did not like Elle’s psycho flirt at first.
I like to refer to Maya and Alejandro as the Wonder Twins of DEATH.
Am I supposed to post the list in my order of preference? How about just my top five? I don’t think I really want a lot of the powers. I think regeneration may be a curse rather than an advantage. It’d just start to hurt after a while. Maybe I’d want to be like Niki or Mohinder who seem to just have the superpower of being really, really hot and their uselessness to plot or bad decisions just seem to be forgiven.
But here I go:
1. Christopher Eccelston, MIA this season, but I’ve always been fascinated with invisibility. Ain’t going to bring back the $10 I spent on Hollowman though. Which secretly…I enjoyed.
2. Monica-I referred to her today as “As Seen on TV” girl.
3. Hiro-Of course. Because who doesn’t want to stop time?
4. Parkman-So that I can get Greg to do the dishes and take me out to see Becoming Jane while speaking in a British accent. Hmmm…come to think of it, you could have some fun with Parkman’s power, couldn’t you? Also, is Parkman’s power a re-introduction of PMAT from season 1?
5. I guess Isaac (RIP), Micah and DL kinda all mush together at #5 while everyone else sorts themselves out beneath that.
I agree with Selana, Christopher Eccelston would be # 1 on my list. I would also put Clair’s dad, Noah, on the top of my list. He may not have a super power, but he is a bad a$$. He is fluent in at least 3 languages, can use a gun, has ninja like fighting skills, & is fighting to bring down the evil paper factory.
“As Seen On TV Girl” is now Monica’s official name. It’s perfect!!! Selena, you could write this stuff.
I forgot about Invisible Man, (I suppose the writers did too). I go back and forth about invisibility, I think Kevin Bacon kind of ruined that novelty of that power for me in that lame lame movie Hollow Man.
Hey man, Hollowman got an Oscar nod that year for best visual effects. Which it definitely deserved.
I think Jeff submitted the nom for that one- you guys should bond on Hollow Man- LAME : P
