After a hearty meal of hot pot and a series of board games, the Kang family meant to close out Christmas eve with a gift exchange. It was a good plan, but it would be impossible to enact because Selena and Dean and I chipped in and bought her dad a Wii. After a few minutes of quick setup, there were wee hours of Wii sports, as we bowled through the one o’clock hour and were trading punches in boxing as the clock passed 2 AM.

The Wii was the most challenging gift to get. Once Selena got it in her head it would be the perfect present for her dad, she started digging and quickly discovered it was also the hottest present of the year, and any shipments were selling out instantly.

Fortunately, her timing was good, because on this Saturday (a couple weeks ago) when she was calling around asking Best Buy and Circuit City if they had any in stock, they disclosed that there was the last shipment before Christmas was coming to town tomorrow. They further forewarned that people will probably be lining up early. This was affirmed by Dean who, coming home very late, drove past the Best Buy at 3AM and saw people already lined up.

Selena and I were asleep still at 3AM, but by 5AM we were awake and bundling ourselves up to prepare for four hours of pre-dawn waiting in line in front of a closed store. We skipped Best Buy as the line was already wrapping around the building and went to Circuit City instead. A circular had announced that every Circuit City store would be getting in at least 21 Wiis that morning. We were number 19 in line. From there it was just a waiting game.

Everyone else in line was talking about how much their kids want this system and how excited they will be. We were the only ones in line without kids, but we had the scary realization that when we eventually do, we will be so whipped. If we are willing to stand in the cold for four hours for the prefect gift for our parents, just think the lengths we will go to in order to properly spoil our future children.

But those issues are way down the road still, in the meantime we are going back to the Kangs for some more Wii sports and Christmas brunch before heading up to Delaware to visit with the Robletos for Christmas dinner.

We hope you all are having a very happy holiday, spending it with people you love.

Merry Christmas,

From Selena and Greg

Is it really as awesome as it sounds? Is it sad for a single 32-year-old woman to be contemplating getting one for herself?

Welcome to the World of Wii. I hope Selena’s dad liked it as much as you two did. There is never ending fun with the Wii, if you haven’t already figured that out. I hope Selena’s dad lives nearby…

Not sad at all, Stef. We are contemplating getting ourselves one as well. In fact we nearly did. We were both waiting in line for her Dad’s Wii when I sent Selena off to get coffee. While she was gone, the Circuit City dude came around and gave our vouchers so we wouldn’t have to stand in the rain, but only gave one per person. Had Selena been with me, we’d have our own Wii right now.
