LOST returns

Posted by: Greg

The hiatus is over, the brand new scripted-television season premiere of LOST is tonight (yes, they moved it to Thursday tonight, last night they showed an odd pop-up video version of the season finale of Season Three to get us ready).

At this time last year, I had LOST on life support. We were disenfranchised with the short fall season, and were thinking that it looked like LOST had lost its edge. Then after a monstrous comeback last Spring, LOST rose from the ashes back to the top my must-see list, and only slightly lower on Selena’s (she’s still carrying the torch for Prison Break and always has a new favorite of the month – this month it’s Gossip Girl).

In the interim, LOST producers did provide a few Missing Pieces shorts that answered a few of the lesser questions from seasons past – like what happened to the Monsoon Season the professor, Artz, warned everyone was coming on fast near the end of Season One. Not a mystery you’d feel unfulfilled without being answered, but nice to see they are addressing nonetheless.

The LOST peeps also provided an alternate reality game (ARG) online. This followed a separate thread of the LOST world, and involved having to return to this website often, search for clues with your mouse, and call phone numbers and a whole lot of other menial activity. It wasn’t for me, I prefer my LOST in passive formats like watching and reading.

This brings me to my favorite add-on to watching LOST, reading the Lost and Gone Forever blog. Brian, an ubur-fan, writes three posts for every episode. One pre-viewing to speculate what will happen based off just the press release and the trailer. A second providing an immediate reaction and a third thereafter providing a hefty analysis of the episode. Thanks to Stef with the View from 16th Street, for introducing me to it, this is a must-visit for me when LOST is in new episodes.

Okay, I know this is totally off-topic, but you brought it up, so no raking over any coals for my excitement over something other than LOST, please…

That disclaimed, I am sooo psyched that Selena is watching Gossip Girl too!! Yay for not-so-guilty girly pleasures : )

p.s. please understand that this now leaves her/you both open to new attempts at convincing you to adopt The O.C. into your repertoire… as your prior excuse has been blown to shreds with this admission (not wanting to get into anymore extraneous shows.) The O.C. is by the same creator, but sooo much better! Methinks she doth protest too much…

You both know I can barely breathe. Luckily today is super-busy at work so it’s flying by.

Greg, I’m so glad you’re still a Brian fan – his blog and the related message board have enhanced my enjoyment of LOST so much… even when I didn’t think it was possible to be MORE obsessed with the show. It gives me a huge community of people to obsess with, and I love all the insights. Apparently I’ve shared my own feelings enough with the other readers that they knew to expect me to be drooling over the Sawyer ad. :-)

Read longlivelocke.blogspot.com as well. Erika is just as good as Brian at analysis.

Call me Tweedledee. If you go onto the ABC website there is a really neat link. You just need to answer a few questions about yourself, and it tells you what nickname Sawyer would come up for you.
