At the Luge in Quebec

Posted by: Greg

This is one of my favorite videos. I put it up on YouTube, so it could be publicly available to share with everyone. This was some amazing camera work by our good friend Catherine, who was able to keep the camera steady while sliding down a hill of ice. (Cloverfield cinematographers, take note, you may want to inquire about how to do this before you start shooting the sequel). She even gets a pan right to see Danielle, Selena and I racing her and Tom’s sled down the hill and into pedestrian traffic. Check it out.

It appears you do not have the Flash plugin installed is required for this presentation.

This was filmed on New Year’s Eve 2006 at the ice luge on the boardwalk in Quebec City. It was part of a trip to Canada to ring in the new year. Pictures of this trip are on Flickr. Note how bundled up we are in those photos and videos. While it was a wonderful trip, and I’d happily do it again, it was bitter bone-chillingly cold. I’m pretty sure that was the coldest I’ve ever been.

How about you?

    Coldest I’ve ever been?…

**DISCLAIMER: Please refrain from throwing tomatoes, sending nasty computer (or human) viruses my way, razzing (not entirely sure what that means : ), or otherwise hating on me for my attendance at the following. While I regret the implications of the event, it was nonetheless a unique, memorable, and historic experience.

Anywho… the coldest I’ve ever been was standing in the freezing wet rain for… I forget, but something like 4 or 5 hours… watching the Presidential Inaugural Parade of George W. Bush on January 21 (??), 2001. We stood… in the same spot… on one of those avenues in DC (I’m sure someone can tell me which)… for hours. Could not see or hear the speeches, but other assorted fanfare- waiting, and freezing, and soaking- I just should have known : )

I know there is tradition of the January inauguration, but it sure it a terrible time to try to host a very public event in the DC area. It’s always freezing, often raining or snowing. Our ninth President actually died as a direct result from catching pneumonia when giving his inauguration address outdoors that fateful day. In the weather’s defense, it was a VERY long speech.
