Prior to our wedding, we lost our living room and dining room for about four months while they were overwhelmed with boxes either coming in with gifts or going out to the Keys. So, two Saturday’s ago when we moved about twenty boxes of Selena’s old stuff out of the family home and into our own, I started to worry that we may be once again about to turn our home into storage, as you can see:
Except we couldn’t let it remain in the living room, because in less than a week, my brother Jeff and his girlfriend Katie and their friend Melanie were coming to stay at our place, and all this mess had to be gone through, organized and put away by that time.
I wasn’t sure we could do it.
But we were determined to try, each day we came straight home from work, we ate light, we did not watch our shows (conclusions of John Adams and Dexter on DVD had to be pushed back a week) and focused. I primarily provided support and resources (bins, trash bags, etc). It was Selena who did the majority of the effort.
In the end we got the last box up in our attic the night before they arrived, and were able to leave for work the morning of knowing that when we got home, they would be waiting for us in our home, and our home would be clean for them.
So this story has a happy ending, which may not be worth commenting on, so instead I give you the contents so some of Selena’s boxes from days of yore:
Here is an example of one box, including her 90210 heart pillow (note, this did not go into the Goodwill, eBay or trash piles, this one made the cut and is still with us).
Here’s Selena’s plastic figurine collection. This was primarily collected before I met her, so I know little about what’s in here, other than it’s probably worth something in that Beanie Baby sort of way.

And a few diaries with some priceless entries!
Niiice… I wouldn’t be getting rid of that box, either! Eeyore, Cabbage Patch Katie, and Brandon Walsh… : )
Lots of Little Mermaid in that figurine collection, too- love it!!
Haha- I hope Gossip Greg doesn’t know all your dirty secrets now.

We did not get rid of that box, it is in storage, but we do now have a giant pile of stuff that is to go on eBay or to Goodwill (if the eBay crowd declines to bid on it).
[...] Imagine my excitement when I found that Greg had a huge pile stashed in his mom’s home as well. Things that rivaled a Brandon Walsh 90210 pillow. Things that justified keeping my Happy Meal toy collection. Things that gave me lots of fun images in response to this post. [...]
