On Monday, Greg and I were dressed to the nines for the Helen Hayes awards (it’s like a local DC version of the Tony Awards, except with more inside jokes. And cheesier.) and decided we should eat someplace she-she as well. We went to TenPenh* and started off with some cocktails. Greg loved that his drink came with a plastic cocktail monkey and took both of ours and placed it in his tuxedo pocket with his silk handkerchief.
Partway through the awards show, Greg sneezed and immediately pulled out his handkerchief to cover his mouth, forgetting about the monkeys and flinging them through the air onto the patrons all around us. This was followed by a loud gasp, “Ack! Monkeys!” and a mad scramble to recollect his monkeys
No harm no foul. All monkeys have been reclaimed, the other patrons didn’t seem to notice and we had a great evening.
*On a side note: TenPenh beforehand may have been the best dining experience we ever had: complimentary hand towels, complimentary appetizer soup sample and complimentary dessert, topped with an incredible waiter (Leo), service, and food!
Yay! Four Ten Penh monkeys have been living on my desk, and sometimes swinging from my plant, for about 3 years now. I agree, TP is one of the best places in town. The red curry shrimp is divine.
