Selena has expressed to me that she gets anxious that people outside the circle of friends we know are reading this blog. I assured her that if they were, that was not a bad thing, it was just people interested in what we have to say, and certainly no one malicious. Now, I am not longer sure.
Our friend Stef, a frequent commenter on this blog, got personally attacked yesterday on her own blog. She wrote up a post about her weekend including going to the Presidential Gala and seeing Clay Aiken perform. She made the quip:
He did a decent job performing a ballad… his voice is good, but I just didn’t feel it at all. I was too occupied trying to figure out his hair.
And that unleashed the dogs of war.
Immediately a fury of bloggers known as posing as the Claymates came out of the woodwork to defend their Idol. Except instead of coming to his defense, they went on the offense directing personal insults and attacks at Stef. You can read the whole ordeal in the comments here.
I have to imagine their Idol, Clay, would have been mortified to see how ruthlessly they pounced over a rather innocuous statement.
Wow, a whole blog post about me!!! Thankfully, things seem to have quieted down, and I hope it stays that way. I’m staying strong and I won’t let a few bad apples shut down my blog, but it certainly wasn’t fun seeing all those comments come through. What was nice, though, was seeing the way all of my friends rallied in support. Thanks!

I don’t know and there were some that were not by Clay Aiken fans. I usually never responded to this but really that is a bit of an stretch . Sorry that some fans felt the need to do that but it is unfair to the rest of his fan base to label that an attack.
Thanks for the feedback lee. If you dispute the work “attack” I think we could agree it was an overwhelming response considering the source, Stef, who typically gets say 1-4 responses per post. This one post received 25 comments, many from unnamed and vehement Clay Aiken supporters. Still, this is in no way indicative to the behavior or opinion of all Clay Aiken fans.
