While doing my civic duty, participating in jury selection, the judge asked the large pool of jurors to stand if you have been a victim of a crime. Nearly the entire room stood. As he went around the room inquiring the nature of the crime, it alarmed me that (I estimate) at least 40% said their car was broken into.

For convenience I frequently leave my car in front of our condo, but upon hearing this, I have been making the point to put the car away in the locked underground garage after each use. Better safe than sorry.

Not to be dense, but I’m confused- when were you performing jury duty? I thought you were in Europe… do you have dual citizenship in the UK and had to fly over there as your ‘civic duty’?
