Selena and I follow a lot of TV shows. So, once we start feeling that we are watching a TV show out of obligation, not enjoyment, we cut the cord. This season, we are weaning off a few shows:
Heroes: We TiVo’d the premiere but before watching it, we heard the show did not reinvent itself. It was still awful, confusing and now lacked continuity. Conclusion: Walking away
90210: Word from a die-hard fan of the original series was that the new series “is all right, I guessâ€Â. When our TiVo is already stuffed to the brim, it doesn’t take much to keep us from getting sucked into a mediocre redo of a once great show. If it improves, we’ll swing back over to it, but for now, we’ll get our rich naughty teen soap fix from Gossip Girl anyways. Conclusion: May look for on DVD down the road
24: True, it’s not even on, but if it was, we wouldn’t be watching. This is a premeditated cutting of the cord. We stuck with 24 for six seasons, it stopped being great halfway through season 1 and stoped even being palatable when they brought Audrey in. Conclusion: Running away
Prison Break: I really wanted to say goodbye to Prison Break which has fallen so far from the amazing first season, but the Ocean’s 11 style storyline is interesting enough to keep us coming back for now. Plus, they brought back my favorite, Sara Tancredi, who, true, was beheaded last season, but they explained that away. Conclusion: Staying on the TiVo… for now.
How about you, what shows did you pull off the TiVo this fall season?
I had added Fringe to the TiVo, but after two episodes dropped it. I just couldn’t bring myself to care any more.
I’m keeping (in week order) Desperate Housewives, Mad Men, Chuck, How I Met Your Mother, Heroes*, House, Ugly Betty, and Grey’s Anatomy.
I’m waiting for DVD on Bones, Pushing Daisies, and Dirty Sexy Money. (If the latter two last.)
I’m adding – for at least 4 eps each to try to judge – The Ex List, The Mentalist and My Own Worst Enemy.
*The Heroes corollary – I know I was one of the people who ranted so much about how it sucks sucks sucks now, and it still does. But, here’s the thing. It’s kinda become comic relief for me. I purposefully don’t watch it every closely, and only look up every few minutes to have a “p’shaw!” moment and it makes me feel all enjoyable superior. And, for now, that’s enough for a Monday night.
Hiya!
Your name popped into my head (I have no idea why) so I thought I’d take a look and see what you’ve been up to. A lot, I see!
To maintain the thread, I’ve been watching Chuck, with a definite sense of coming in late, but it’s a lot of fun in a geeky way. CSI is on my iffy list now, with Sara and Warrick both gone and Grissom slated for departure sometime this season.
Dave
If I had the power to do so, I would drop Heroes. I also stopped recording Desperate Housewives & Grey’s Anatomy. If I really want to see them, they are on line.
I was excited for the new show, The Ex List, but that was already cancelled. Boo!
I love BBC America and have my dvr set to record Gavin & Stacy, and on 11/7/08 it will add Doctor Who to the library. I would so love to be David Tennant’s baby mama.
UPDATE: Prison Break is dangerously close, even for me, lover of all things Michael Scofield, to being cut. I do think this is the last season though, so it’s hard not to stick it out to the end.
UPDATE: 24 commercials have been looking good. We take back what we say and will try out the premiere. It better wow us!
