In Europe, we rented the smallest, most fuel-efficient car I have ever driven, (a hatchback Peugeot), and it cost us $120 to fill up the tank. Meanwhile, back in the States, the price of gas was plummeting and still continues to drop.
Coming back from King George, VA over the weekend we stopped for gas and was absolutely floored to see the pump reading only $1.83 for unleaded. I filled up the Jeep for just over $25. The Jeep which could probably carry the Peugeot in it’s trunk, cost only about 1/5 the price to fill.
Sounds like the timing of your trip to less fuel-dependent locales was less than fortunate.
Jeff and I were just lamenting the timing of our/my 8,000 mile road trip this summer (plus, 2 whole months spent in the gas-ceiling capital of the US.) I don’t even want to think about how much money I/we’d have saved if prices had been less than half the price they were, as they are now : (
