Is Hasbro the Next Marvel?

Long form:

The Motley Fool, where I work, is a publications company, providing financial and investing advice. I was given the opportunity to write an article for the Fool on a company of my choice. I chose Hasbro, because with all the blockbuster movies in the works they reminded me of Marvel, which has been a great stock pick for anyone who got in early, like when the first few Spiderman movies came out.

Greg's article about Hasbro on The Motley Fool

I did my research: breaking down Hasbro’s business model, making a SWOT analysis for the company, and reading a lot of their Annual and Quarterly reports. Finally, I had enough to go on and I started writing and writing and writing.

I probably had a thousand words easily. The Motley Fool Take is only supposed to be 300-500, I cut it down to 585 words and sent it to the editorial team. A great Fool editor, Nate, cleaned it up and gave it a succinct title and here I am very proud to announce is, my first piece of published work. So, please click through and read:

Congratulations, Greg! Despite lone commenter DownEscalator ’s downer response, I thought it was a very forward-thinking idea. (S)He clearly was just fixated on movies and didn’t get your overall point. In any case, it was informative and persuasive, and also ended on a funny note- and in just about 500 words, was just the right length (no offense to your rough draft : )

Thanks Stef, thanks Katie. I actually liked DownEscalator’s opposing viewpoint. I’m used to reading comments on the Fool boards (regarding our site design) like “Everything you do is awful” so a above-board exchange of opinions is kinda refreshing.

Greg, I’m so impressed…the content was appealing, I could hear your voice in the article, and no misspellings! What a fantastic job!

I just thought of this again this morning when something came on the radio about Monopoly, or something else by Hasbro (probably one of the new endeavors you reference in your article- I just wasn’t paying attention enough to remember– until at the end when they said, “… is a registered trademark of Hasbro.”)

Way to be on top of the radar, and cause me as the average Jo American to recognize the brand in this new light of market worthiness!

@kitty – it really is everywhere isn’t it? That’s the cool thing about learning about public companies like Hasbro, is seeing their reach, it can be really astounding sometimes.

Thanks everyone, I got a lot of good feedback from the Fool and the open invitation to write again whenever I have something to say about a company we cover. Very excited to have gotten this opportunity.
